Personality: Rhyme is everyone’s cheerleader. Optimistic, she’ll push anyone to do their best, and she won’t give up on them. Almost so happy she looks fake, she’ll always have something to say to brighten someone’s day. She’ll constantly try to offer them ideas, or help a person out when they are in trouble or just need some lifting up. Her friends and family are the most important thing to her, and she’ll give a little bit of extra up for them, as she loves them with all her heart. It’s hard to hate a girl like her, honestly. She is pretty much nice to everyone, and even when people are mean to her, she’ll always try to be nice and polite back. She’s level and reasonable, always offering a saying or a piece of advice to someone if they need it. She never seems to get frustrated, and she always seems pretty calm despite everything. All in all, she’s a good kid.
Her ambition also makes her stand out. Determined to do anything she sets her mind to, she’s politely stubborn, never forcing anything out of anyone but eager to learn and to try until she can’t try any more. She is smart for her age, using words a twelve year old normally wouldn’t use, and even correcting her older brother sometimes. She’s an avid reader, and she soaks up information like a sponge, making her a good listener as well. She’ll listen to anyone’s problems , and she’ll learn anything she can (well, almost anything: she’d never want to hunt or to harm someone) if someone offers it, and she’s willing to take opportunities as they come. It might not be something she’s interested in, but she’ll always want to learn, and she will always keep trying to learn.
But, there’s an underside to all of this. Despite the fact that she tries so very hard to help everyone else out, when she’s in trouble, she seems to freeze up, scared and unsure. She also never takes the time to take care of her own problems, which manifest themselves in little pessimistic bouts that can only be cured by another person. She has many fears as well, which sometimes consume her with a bit of worry until someone cheers her up. She’s really afraid to step on anyone’s toes, and as soon as she does, she backs off, afraid, and quiet as a mouse. She always bounces back, but without someone there to make her bounce back, she can’t, and that’s her problem.

There are a few grammar and spelling errors throughout the application that could use fixing. Also, we feel there is a contradiction between the wiki page and your personality section, particularly when it comes to his feelings on his heart. The wiki suggests that he has come to terms with his lack of one, while your app says that he believes he has one. Can you back your opinion up with canon evidence?

Thank you for your submission. Unfortunately, we have too many concerns about this app to accept it at this time. We invite you to try again next round, so here is some hopefully useful critique.

First, the writing. There was nothing especially wrong with grammar or spelling, but the writing tended to be weirdly redundant. For example, "Hoshi steadily got the image of a "bad girl" among her peers due to her rebellious nature and her claim to stand up for what was right, but it was mainly because of her rebellious nature." This is nothing that a bit of proofreading couldn't fix, but it persisted enough throughout the app to be a legitimate concern.

Second, we are having a difficult time reconciling the personality section with the history section. We feel this is because the history section is too vague; though the Crimson Champions "gang" seemed like the most important part, there wasn't much of a feel for what they were actually like. And you say they were gradually being "chosen" for the Reaper's Game (as in being murdered by Reapers, it seems, from what she said in your sample) - which doesn't make any sense in context of the canon. Since it's apparent that she is supposed to be a TWEWY fan character, this raises a bit of a red flag. For any fan character, we require more depth of understanding of the canon that they're coming in from.

Also, this is just a recommendation, but if you do apply again, it would be nice to see a sample that shows a bit more character depth. The current ones are a lot about the game, which is fine, but it would be easier to see where you're coming from if you focus less on it.

Personality: Hanekoma prefers to pretend he's nothing more than your standard Expository Character: wise, friendly, knowledgeable, and gifted with the supernatural ability to always show up at exactly the right moment. In reality, however, Hanekoma takes a far more active role in the events of The World Ends with You. While appearing to play within the rules of the Game – the central competition is in fact between the Composer and the Conductor, and Hanekoma, as the Producer, should remain neutral - Hanekoma does all he can to influence the outcome so that Joshua will not ultimately destroy Shibuya. He saves Neku from erasure and provides him with the impetus to expand his horizons; and he goes much further, far enough to mark him as a Fallen Angel, by setting up Minamimoto Sho to attack Joshua directly and teaching Sho how to refine Taboo Noise. Hanekoma cares deeply for Shibuya and its inhabitants, and will go to great lengths to protect them. More, he has a great and general affection for all humanity, particularly those people who exhibit unusual imagination or determination. Even outside of Joshua's game, Hanekoma makes efforts to improve Shibuya; his artwork as CAT, which is extremely popular in the area, carries subliminal messages to attract people of exceptional “Imagination,” or spiritual/creative potential, and to increase their imagination and involvement.

Despite his affection for people in general, Hanekoma isn't much of a softy. He maintains the same jovial, generous, no-bullshit attitude with everyone from Beat to Joshua himself. He cares about people, often very much, but he won't let that stop him from doing his job (until the point of all of Shibuya being endangered; that's enough to make him break the rules. Nothing less.) He helps out the Players and makes sure that the Reapers obey the rules, but he won't interfere with people's erasure if it follows those rules. He's free with information, but only the information that he wants to give, and he has no qualms about shutting down lines of conversation he doesn't feel like getting into. He's implacable but maintains a sense of humor about his dodges, as when Neku presses him for personal details and he talks about his favorite food, personal motto, hobbies and vital measurements. He doesn't coddle people, either; the joviality can switch to a very serious lecture if someone's foolishly endangering their lives or another's in his vicinity. Despite his responsible appearance, though, he claims to be a gambler, and his actions support the contention.

While, like any gambler, Hanekoma likes to win (and isn't above ensuring the odds are slanted his way), he has no qualms about taking risks - even extreme ones, like giving forbidden information to Sho in order to impede Joshua. His Secret Reports state that sharing that information has marked him as a Fallen Angel, and that orders have been issued to find and report him. Furthermore, the Higher Planes are said to be intensely focused on the outcome of Joshua's Game with Kitaniji, such that they would not tolerate interference. As Hanekoma is the person who provides all of this information, he is obviously fully aware of the potential consequences of his actions... and yet he is willing to risk Falling and severe consequences from the Higher Planes in order to increase the chances that Shibuya will survive the Game. (It's implied that those consequences are still being decided as of the secret ending: Hanekoma says to Joshua, “This mess is gonna have repercussions upstairs.”)

Of everyone in the game, Joshua is clearly the person he's closest to. As the Producer, Hanekoma interacts with everyone in the game (creating the Red Skull pins for Kitaniji, lecturing Uzuki, selling coffee and snacks and information to Players) but only Joshua knows his real identity and role. In his one Secret Report where he doesn't hide his identity as the Fallen Angel who helped create Taboo Noise in Shibuya – in the “Another Day” side story, tucked away in a parallel world where no one could find it – he talks about the guilt he feels when he hears Joshua's cheerful voice, knowing he's set Josh up for an assassination attempt from Sho. Not only do they maintain an effective working relationship; Hanekoma considers Joshua a friend.

This doesn't stop him from risking everything to try and kill Joshua when he threatens to destroy the UG. Hanekoma is cold.

He's a tinkerer as well as an artist. As CAT, he's a designer, musician, animator and visual artist, while in his role as the Producer, he programs apps that combine technology and magic to allow people to do things like use their phones to take photos of the past or track the magical signature of someone's imagination. He also creates extremely powerful “Psych” pins for the use of those Players and Reapers who can earn or afford them. His coffee shop ownership seems to be a side hobby, since no other customers are ever in the shop, but that might also be a side-effect of Hanekoma's tendency to price his coffee exorbitantly. (More than $5 for a cup of black house blend?!) He seems to have a personal affection for coffee, too, or at least (he claims) beans. Natto included. Don't expect discounts or freebies – Hanekoma can and will be a ruthless skinflint at the same time as he offers vital information.

Abilities: Producer of Shibuya. Unlike Joshua, his powers aren't tied to his district; he's able to achieve higher Frequencies than anyone but a fellow Angel can reach, which lets him travel between worlds at will. He can also alter the Frequency and form of others, transforming (for example) Noise into a pin, or bringing Joshua with him to a higher Frequency so that both of them can return to their home Shibuya.

He creates pins holding a variety of psychs, including sets that interact or synergize in unusual and complex ways (the pins bearing CAT art are among the most powerful and expensive in the game.) Hanekoma's pins can even affect individuals on the RG, as with the Red Skull pins that placed the mind of anyone wearing them under Kitaniji's direct control. The Player Pins he creates allow Players to reach out into the minds of individuals on the RG, reading their thoughts and implanting subliminal suggestions, and also protect Players' minds from being read or affected in order to preserve their still-fragile minds from the demands of true openness. He can also program cell phones, obtaining or creating apps with openly supernatural abilities; for instance, he alters Joshua and Neku's phones to be able to photograph the past.

He can refine Noise into Taboo forms, as well as altering its existing form in other ways; he can preserve and restore Erased Players, saving not only the Player but also their partner from destruction. He also has multiple possible forms, including a form with and one without visible large white angel wings, and Panthera Cantus, his powerful and fast-moving Noise form. (It's possible that he can store and use powers like his transformation into Panthera Cantus in feathers, just as Players and Reapers use abilities contained in pins; he whips out a red and blue feather before assuming the Noise form, and it consists of a red-tinted and blue-tinted form, each of which exactly replicates the Noise form of a different Reaper officer. Joshua has a white feather, similarly shaped, which grants him a variety of bonuses and an extra star toward his sync attacks.)

He's capable of detecting anomalies in the overall state of the District, such as distress from individuals unusually gifted with Imagination; in an unfamiliar District, his senses likely wouldn't be as acute until he learned the “normal” state of the new District. He's able to predict possible outcomes and judge probabilities with supernatural precision; he doesn't see the future, but he can identify and act on possibilities.

He's able not only to influence other minds with subliminal suggestions but also to implant subliminal messages into his artwork, driving its acceptance throughout Shibuya, calling to individuals who have greater Imagination, and working to refine and improve the souls of those who view it. He can create sigils that allow interaction between the UG and the RG (for instance, Reaper Creeper games and the symbols that mark shops.) He's an expert with many different forms of art, from furniture making to music, but his dominant aesthetic is a dense and brightly colored graffiti style.

Nothing but a nightmare

After doing some research on the character, it seems the OU of Anti Black Coat does not have any sort of a personality or character. We understand this AU serves as an attempt to give him one, and that's fine, but as it stands the application is a bit too sparse on details to be acceptable. So, here is some critique that we'd expect you to address in the revisions.

The history in particular feels sort of thrown together and confusing in terms of the canon. We really don't get a sense for what they were doing before and after the fight with Riku and between that and the subsequent fight with the whole island trio. Other than eating spirits, what was happening? Since nothing was really expounded upon, it looks like there's nothing much to the AU besides the existence of these characters. We understand that it's alternate, but the "universe" part is just not well crafted.

Another thing that's puzzling is that your version of ABC is a "Nightmare" form of Riku, but this is never really touched upon in the app beyond a passing mention. Does he have any 'Riku' traits? This is a point that could use some clarifying, since your sample seems to show something like that.

There's also the fact that this character is more similar to a fandom OC than an AU, and yet because he was an endgame boss, was born from Sora's nightmares, and looks like Riku, he's likely to have a strong IC response from the existing KH cast. We understand that all of these things are technically plausible in KH though, so this is a pretty unusual case in terms of acceptability. Because of that, we'd like to ask how you envision his reactions to the characters in-game.

Personality: At first glance, Ryoji appears to be a regular high school student. He loves flirting with girls (and guys, occasionally), playing video games, procrastinating on homework, and doing all the regular things a teenager would do. Of course, deep inside, he has a horrible secret, one that he'll do almost anything to keep hidden.

Ryoji's secret that he is both a Shadow and Death itself has had quite an affect on him. He feels extremely guilty over the death of anyone, especially his closest friend, Minato, and will become visibly upset when anyone talks about such morbid subjects. He is used to being extremely secretive, unintentionally when he suffered from amnesia, but intentionally now so as not to scare people or harm them. Most importantly, he takes no life for granted. To him, everyone here deserves a second chance, and he will be very wary of fighting anyone. He is fearful of losing anyone close to him. In front of other Reapers, he may send some weak Noise to attack, but other than that he will simply allow the Players their shot at life

That doesn't mean he won't enjoy his second shot either. Ryoji is very carefree, and will likely spend a great deal of time goofing off at arcades and cafes, like he used to at Port Tatsumi Island. He is also extremely flirtatious, and a bit of a pervert, never refusing the chance to peep on girls in hot springs or use dirty pick-up lines on his upperclassmen. He also won't refuse the company of anyone, Player, Reaper, or RGer. Even if he doesn't trust them or has had bad experiences with them in the past, he will continue to speak with them, albeit with a defensive wall put up.

But perhaps the most notable use of time for Ryoji will be trying to track down his closest friend, as well as almost his other half, Minato. With him out of the Gate, Ryoji will assume that Minato is free from being the Seal, and will stop at nothing to track him down. Of course, when asked about him, he will shrug and claim Minato is... just special. But be warned: Minato is probably the one person that Ryoji will die for... and kill for.

Abilities: As he is, depowered when away from his "mother", Nyx, Ryoji is a lot less dangerous than those from his world may remember, though still nothing to smirk at. As Death, he is pretty much immortal, and any attacks will pretty much be shrugged off. As well, he has another form as the Persona, Thanatos, and that form comes packed with extra attacks, as seen here. Though he will never likely be angry enough to use these abilities... it's probably a good idea to watch oneself around him.

Other than that, he is skinnier than usual, so he may be slightly quicker and more nimble than other Players and Reapers. He's not very confrontational, though, and also fairly easy to outsmart.

[Ryoji is rushing through the city, more panicked than usual. He's shoving people to the side, narrowly avoiding collisions with cars and streetlamps (he swears those things move just to spite him), and almost accidentally hanging himself, seeing as how often his bright yellow scarf gets tangled on tree branches, doorknobs, or whatever hook shaped objects are nearby.

Finally, after nearly starting a domino effect when stumbling into a group of commuters waiting for the bus stop, Ryoji gets the idea to try speaking to people instead of barreling into them. So he'll quickly tap the shoulder of the nearest person, smiling brightly, but with a tinge of worry.]

Um, sorry, excuse me! Have you seen my friend, about my height, blue-hair, headphones, kind of what you'd call 'emo'? I've been looking everywhere for him!

The app looks good so far! The sample falls a bit short though, it didn't quite show a grasp on the characterization since it was primarily action. We'll need either a revision or an additional sample with more dialogue before we can accept it.

Additional Note: William cannot be assumed to have entered this particular game beforehand. However, this Reaper's game is run by OCs instead of the canon TWEWY cast, and is in a different (ever-changing) location. Since you mentioned that he was stationed in Shibuya in the AU, you CAN assume that he had taken part in the game in Shibuya for a while. It is also fine for him to have Raven Noise, or any Noise for that matter (with the exception of Pig and Taboo noise), and battle pins will not be necessary as he has canon abilities.
