FAQ
Now sectioned for your convenience!
What kind of characters can I app?
All kinds of characters! Wonderful Worlds is a panfandom game, which means you can app from movies, books, TV, anime, manga, comics, and anything else you could think of. We also allow Original Characters and characters from Alternate Universes. We do not allow real people (living or dead) to be apped, but exceptions will be made for fictionalized versions of themselves, such as Will Smith in The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air or the cast of the Samurai Warriors games.
What kinds of Original Characters?
We will allow OCs from stories of your own creation, as well as fan characters, with a few stipulations on the latter:
Fandom OCs must not be closely related to any canon characters from whatever fandom you're basing it on. So let's say you're apping a Harry Potter fan character - they cannot be Draco's relative, Lupin's old friend, or anything like that. They'd basically have to be a character having their own life that just happened to be set in the same world.
What kinds of Alternate Universes?
Pretty much any kind. AUs that existed in canon, as well as what-if situations, canon fusions, species swaps, fanfics, CR AU, it's all good. However these characters will be judged with scrutiny - we don't want to see AUs where everything has changed to where the character has become unrecognizable as that character. That will be considered OOC.
Additionally, AU characters ARE allowed to exist alongside each other in the game. It's allowed to play Kingdom Hearts Cloud alongside Final Fantasy Cloud, or whatever. HOWEVER, they cannot be played by the same person. Do not come here saying you want to play ALL THE CLOUDS!! You will be denied.
That said, there is currently no cap on how many AUs will be allowed, but that could change if people abuse it or the game gets too much confusion over a single "person".
Can I app characters from TWEWY?
Yes! And what's more, they won't even have to start over from scratch.
However a good deal of them will require an NPC app. The ones that will require NPC apps are basically anyone who has powers other people will have to work for, for example a Cantus form. Neku would also count because of using all the pins ever. Joshua also counts of course, though we'll probably have to talk him over with whoever's apping.
The ones who can be apped normally are any Player besides Neku, lower ranked Reapers who don't have Cantus forms (ex. Uzuki, 777), any RG character, and "Another Day" characters. However for characters that were erased in canon, we'd prefer you to take them from a canon point where they have not been erased.
So does my character have to be dead to be a Player or a Reaper?
Yep! But we are very flexible with this. If your character didn't die at any point in canon, you're free to handwave it or make something up.
Do animal or non-human characters have to be humanized?
Generally, no!
But for Players, some changes may still have to be made because of the entry fee. They always have to be nerfed to everyone else's level. So, if you app a Kaiju or a giant Mecha as a Player, they'll have to be sized down one way or another. If you app a vampire as a Player, they won't have any cool powers that come from being a vampire, so basically they'll be like pale humans with fangs (the undead thing is kind of moot since Players are a lot like ghosts.)
Of course, if you would like to humanize your character for any reason, it's certainly allowed! There's some weird mumbo-jumbo going on in this Game, and non-human characters might find themselves changed to fit the most prevalent species around, which is to say humans.
Is there a character limit?
Yes and no, depending on their class. Besides your ability to make AC, there is no limit to the number of RG you can play. However, because of the commitment it takes to play a Player or a Reaper, we'd prefer it kept to one each per mun. Additionally, we will only allow two characters per mun from the same canon, and they absolutely cannot be closely related to each other.
How does time flow in the game?
1 day IC = 1 week OOC. Your characters may be crunched for time, but we don't want you to be!
What's the activity requirements?
Pass the Activity Checks! Which are more like a roll call now, where you just show up and say you're still there. AC currently takes place between IC days 3-4, and IC days 7-1. In other words, every three to three and a half weeks.
How does communication work?
For the most part, the interaction is predominantly live-action, which is to say, face-to-face. Everyone does receive a cell phone if they didn't already have one; however, there is no "network" of phones. Instead, characters are required to have an IC contact post set up in their journal. Characters may exchange cell phone information with each other to initiate the use of these posts, but otherwise, they must interact in person. Players need not worry; their phones will work as well as everyone else's. Feel free to make creepy ghost calls to people in phone booths!!
Learning other peoples' phone numbers can be handwaved - the biggest thing we're going for is for folks to get out there and communicate in person.
Is there money in this game?
Sorta, but we don't want to have to keep track of it. Just assume that your character will enter the game with their wallet or whatever they use to carry money. In any stores with the reaper decal, all forms of currency will be accepted and credit cards will likewise work. So just handwave it and assume your character is as rich or as poor as they would normally be. Noise drop pins that can be exchanged for money, as well as mission rewards, so you can take that into account as well.
How can I get more pins?
For Players, pins are rewards for completing objectives. For example, clearing a wall will net your Player a new pin. If a Reaper sends a noise after the Player and they defeat it, that will also reward a pin. And of course, completing the mission will too.
Similarly, RG characters will have the opportunity to gain pins through mini-events, although while in the RG the pins are only for fun and fashion; they cannot be used for combat, strictly speaking. We hear there's a popular game that makes use of them, though.
Most Reapers will not earn battle pins because they will be allowed to keep canon powers instead, however for characters that canonically had no combat skills, they will be able to gain pins by the same basic coin - completing Reaper duties (putting up walls, heckling players) will earn it for them. Additionally, all Reapers will have a library of Noise pins at their disposal.
So is this a Power-Loss game?
The answer is, again, dependent on class. Players that have powers in canon must give up their powers as part of their entry fee and rely solely on pins. Reapers and RG, however, will get to keep their canon powers with the exception of any game-breaking stuff. Obviously no powers that will let you escape the RP, but for another example, because the dead are supposed to go to the Reaper's Game, any kind of necromancy will not be allowed. Observing the Game from the RG or communing with the "spirits" are entirely okay, just don't magic their bodies back to life, okay?
Is it a stuff-loss game?
Not quite! They won't have everything they've ever owned, but characters will be able to keep any items that were on their person, such as a purse or a stuffed animal or a weapon. If your character has canon hammerspace, they can keep that too. RGers, in particular, can also bring something like a vehicle - the key is whether or not something can be transported.
However, only pins work on noise. If you want to use your weapons against them, you'll need a pin that can be used along side it. Examples of this are Beat's shockwave pin turning his skateboard into a weapon, and Shiki's Psychokinesis pin turning Mr. Mew into a weapon.
So what's stopping our characters from leaving?
Each Reaper's Game area will have permanent invisible walls that are impossible to break without a high-level keypin (which Players and low-ranking Reapers will not have access to.) They keep all participants of the Reaper's Game trapped within that area. As for RGers? Time and space are factors, but it's technically nothing! Go ahead and explore the whole city, or whatever you want to do. If you're on a familiar world, you can even buy a ticket home!! Of course, that won't stop you from being dragged to the next place a week later, so you really will have to ask yourself if it's worth the time and money.
What are RGers supposed to do?
They have a passive role in the Game. Players may be called upon to interact with them in a number of ways, and they may also be affected by Noise. But strictly speaking, they do not have any responsibilities or things they're expected to do. The good part of that is an RG character basically has a free sandbox to play in within each world the game shifts to, whereas Players and Reapers may have to focus more heavily on the mod plot. RG is a good choice for people who want to run their own plots, or even just have a place to play casually.
Can my character die/get erased? How does that work?
Technically, death is final in this game. People die when they are killed, after all! If a RGer meets their end somehow, they'll wake up the next in-game day in the Reaper's Game, missing their entry fee and having a starter pin to help them get going through the week.
Erasure is a bit more permanent, though; typically, getting erased is permanent unless the Reaper or Noise that caused it to happen was incredibly sloppy; such cases are one in a million, though. We'll typically use erasure as an explanation for Player/Reaper drops, but if you want to actually erase your character, talk with the mods about it. After all, there's a million universes out there, one of them's bound to have an answer.
My character has a pet/pokemon/animal companion. Can they come with me to the game?
Once again, Players get the short end of the stick here - they're recently dead, after all, and their beloved friends wouldn't exactly come with them, would they? In addition, if they HAD, they might even be taken as a player's Entry Fee. Reapers will be handled on a case-by-case basis, given that they exist both on the RG and UG planes, and RGers have no restrictions whatsoever there.
Can Players cheat, attack other Players, etc?
It's possible to do so, but remember that the Composer sees all, and may not approve of such actions. Depending on the severity of the offense, one runs the risk of losing their entry fee, being forced to play another week, or even erasure. Playing by the rules is a lot more lucrative than breaking them, in general.
How long does each Mission last?
While each Player does ICly get a timer on their hand (or hand-analogue), we're incredibly lenient with the time frame. Typically we'll give a general indication on the mission itself (A "Very Short" mission may be less than ten minutes, a "Very Long" one could be a few hours or the entire day), but we'll leave the sense of urgency up to you guys.
What happens to Players at the end of a mission?
Downtime. Unlike in the main World Ends With You canon, Players do not black out after the completion of missions. They can do whatever they want. Get something to eat, chain-battle Noise, meet other players, it's all good!
What about coming back to life or joining the Reapers? How does that work?
Any Player that has been in the Reaper's Game one full Week from beginning to end will be given the option to come back to life or join the Reapers - unless you don't want them to be given the option, of course. Not everyone can win, after all! However, coming back to life doesn't allow you to escape the world-jumping; it just lets you hang out on the RG and not have to worry about the Reaper's Game unless you get killed again. Remember, though - it has to be a full IC Week, beginning to end; if you join the game (or die) in the middle, you've got longer to wait!
So what's this "entry fee" have to be? Do I really get it back after one week?
Just like in the game, the entry fee into the Reaper's Game is that which the Player holds most dear. It can be a skill, a cherished thing, or even a facet of your personality. It's even possible that it will mess with your memories! Generally, your entry fee will not change if you are in the Game for multiple weeks, meaning winning a game will return the fee to you, only to remove it once more. However, if you have evidence that your character's opinions have changed since then, feel free to let us know, and we'll help you work something out.
I want to use all the pins ever, just like Neku! Can I?
We're not going to enforce it as a rule, but it's noted that typically, most Players only have a handful of Psychs they can use, or even fewer than that. In addition, thinking about what limitations your character would have helps flesh them out better in the game. In general, the amount of psychs (and in turn pins) a Player can use is a show of both their creative energy and their raw power, and they tend to match the character's abilities in life. For an example, someone who was a marksman might be better with various ranged attack pins, whereas someone known for their speed might be good with Velocity Attack psychs. If you need help figuring out what psychs would work with your character, feel free to ask the mods!
Can Reapers attack each other, cheat, directly attack Players, etc?
Reapers can do just about anything to harass players save for directly attacking or erasing them. Send noise, use psychological warfare, whatever you want! However directly attacking Players - or attacking other Reapers, most of the time - will get you kicked out, which will make you the Player everyone hates. Not advisable, but possible.
Do Reapers still have a quota they have to meet for erasing players?
Not... exactly. Since there's no definite "harrier" and "support" Reaper roles, Reapers just need to show that they are consistently in action somehow. On the other hand, the Reaper's Game is meant to challenge players and erase those who cannot meet that challenge, so if too many Reapers are just setting up walls or going about their own lives, the higher-ups might get a bit upset...
And you won't like it when they get upset.
I started out as a Reaper but I don't think it's right for me/my character! What do?
The people in charge of this strange Reaper's Game realize that, while they give some people an immediate spot in the Reapers based on their position or actions in their home worlds, it's not a good fit for everybody. As of such, they won't raise a fuss if you wish to return to the RG or even attempt the Game as a Player. In addition, those who don't do their job or break the rules will find themselves forcibly ejected from the Reapers, forced to be a Player.
Either way, it's a job you either quit or got fired from, so it's incredibly likely that they won't let you back in if you change your mind.
Can I use my powers to cause mayhem and destruction?
This is a huge grey area because of two specific rules in the Reapers: you can't directly attack Players unless a mission states otherwise, and it is absolutely forbidden in any circumstance to attack RGers with the intent of adding more people to the Reaper's Game. As of such, it's probably better to keep the carnage under control unless you want to get in trouble with your bosses. Then again, part of villainy - and creativity - is finding ways around those rules...

I will probably have more later, because that is how I roll. What exactly is an NPC app, aka how is it different from/what needs to be added to the normal app? Or is this kind of a case by case thing, which would totally make sense. Sorry if this was answered somewhere, I couldn't find it. D:
no subject
But the main thing it would have on it is proof of consistent AC. So there's not much point in making it yet because no one can do that yet! Therefore, at the moment, I think anyone who wants to app an NPC can just use the regular app form. We'll put something new up in future app rounds.
But basically, NPC characters are like normal characters, except that they have to help with events if we ask for it. We plan on there being an overarching plot, and we'd like to incorporate the main cast into it down the line.

Is there anything in particular I should plan for Neku? Like, does he need to for plot reasons be a Reaper versus a Player or is that something I get to decide? (If this would be better as a private convo, my aim is bookworm1208. Alternatively just tell me and I'll ping one of you. XD)

If I were to app a living character, would it be possible for them to die and end up as a Player later on in the game? And if so how would this work? Are they just out of the game until another round starts, or do they immediately end up in the Reaper's Game?
And also, in the case that there's an uneven number of Players, what happens then?
I also apologize in advance because I will probably remember some other random questions and spam you with those as well at a later point ;w;

As for how it works, I think I'll have it where that's up to the individual. They can choose to wait for the next round, or they can join the Reaper's Game immediately - but if they join immediately, they will be exempt from winning, so they'll basically just be buying time until the next game.
With uneven amounts of Players, let me first state that we've bent the rules a bit - Pacts are not as strong; there's no health sharing, for example, so you can survive if your partner is erased. We've also bent the rules on Noise to where, the number of people required to defeat them can be controlled by the Reapers summoning them. The Composer will decide one way or another - Some games it will be two people; sometimes it'll just be one! So there are going to be games where Pacts are fully optional. Therefore, this won't be an issue half of the time.
But in a Pact-mandatory game, well... they're just going to have to scrape by. Avoid reapers, hide in shops where the noise won't go, get some other Player team to be your bodyguard, and hope someone else dies or has their partner erased. It's bound to happen sooner or later, just gotta tough it out!

I think it'd only be AU if you went ahead and did something like, "Oh, so and so castmate killed them." Because then it'd have to affect your CR with that character if they were apped.

How would that work, in all three scenarios of him as RG, player, or reaper...?
no subject
See, Reapers are already kind of "half dead" anyway, since they live in the UG and the RG at the same time. And in TWEWY canon they also kind of state that the Players aren't technically dead, just tuned into a different frequency of reality..... Yeah, there's some complicated stuff in the background that nobody actually needs to know about. But point being, there's justification for it working the same.
As for the RG, his powers would only sort of work. He'll be able to sense Players and Reapers, and he can see things in the UG if he goes ghost. But he won't be able to physically interact with it. No fighting Noise, for example.

One more question though, to clarify the RG thing--he can sense Players and Reapers, this I understand, but could he see them as well? And where do the interaction limits end? Making physical contact? Talking with players/reapers?
(Sorry for the thoroughness, I just want to be super clear on this, because if I app, this might determine how I app him!)

Thank you!!

To give you a specific scenario, the next installment in this guy's series is going to come out some time this year, and preferably I would like to app him from a bad ending where he dies if there is one.
However, I kind of want to join this game right off the bat, so I was thinking of apping him as RG now and then changing him into something UG later. Do you think that would work?

After the canon update occurs, the character will disappear for a day or more, and then reappear as though they had been sent home and come back. If a class change is involved, please assume IC situations surrounding it when they come back. For example if they went from RG to Reaper, part of their absence was recruitment and training.
If it's RG to UG, we'd prefer you to wait for Day 1 of the next "Week" if plausible, but we understand that a Week takes a long time to finish, so it'd still be fine to app into the middle. If you did that, the character would still be gone for at least 1 IC day. Just know that they'd be in the same position as any unpacted Player would be in the middle of the week - possibly a lot of running and hiding if the current game isn't Solo-friendly.

1. How will Erasures be handled? Can Players or Reapers who are destroyed expect to reappear and participate as of the beginning of the next Game, or are they just gone?
2. Do Reapers have to maintain a kill count to continue existing, or since Harriers' and Wall Reapers' roles are combined, can they simply pose minor obstacles to the Players and skate by?
no subject
2. Maintaining a kill count is not mandatory, although if we have too many Reapers that are just making walls, there could be IC consequences such as the Conductor demanding that some people get out there and start sending noise (with a bit of a threat attached at the end, obviously.)

Let's say I apped one such William T. Spears. He's already a reaper in his home canon, garden themed death scythe and everything which is used to view a person's cinematic record which is basically a movie reel of their life.
If I was to apply him as a reaper for this game, how would that work out? Or... incidentally, if I apped him as an AU version where I managed to logically cross over TWEWY and Kuroshitsuji... would that be okay? Setting him a a reaper that got transferred in to Shibuya from the London branch?

To answer your other question, a crossover AU is acceptable.

Canonically she's neither alive nor dead and her powers are... also complicated but essentially she can do almost anything as long as the price for it is paid as well as being able to interact and see the dead... and travel dimensions. (She's pretty much Clamp's answer to The Doctor.)
Naturally a lot of this would be nerfed because she has to play by the rules which she's all about anyway.
I'm looking at having her as a Reaper, as it would be most in-line with things, but if she's not appable due to her sheannigans that's fine to!

However, we recognize that the difficulty in this situation is not in Yuuko alone, but in the actions of others who interact with her, and so we will need to discuss arrangements at the point you're approved into the game. However, we do not mind if you app her!

Would I have to app as a single character or does each character have to have a different app?
Would the two characters be allowed to have 2 different classes? IE. one is RG, one is Reaper
Since one of the characters already died at one point(But alive now), would one or both be allowed to be the player?
If I decide both characters are a player, can the prize be one character one week, then the other the next week, etc etc etc?
no subject
We have no problems accepting a single character with multiple personalities, even if those personalities interact internally.
However, they share a body, meaning that they share a class, a state of life or non-life. The example you gave COULD work, as Reapers can tune themselves to the Realground - if one of those 'characters' was unaware of her status as a reaper, she would effectively be a RGer while the other remained a Reaper.
Taking one persona or another as a player's entry fee would also be possible. However, while some reapers in the game are not technically "dead", players are required to be such, meaning that both characters would need to be dead.

I'll probably just simplify them and have both be the same class. Probably both as Reapers.
